St.-Pius-Gymnasium

St.-Pius-Gymnasium is a private Gymnasium (high school) in Coesfeld near Münster, Germany. It became a Gymnasium in 1976, having previously been an all-boy boarding school. As of 2005 it has approximately 690 pupils.

It is named after Pope Pius X. The whole school is a non-smoking area. The school is associated with the Lycee Notre Dame in Guingamp, Brittany, France and a high school in Poole, Yorkshire, England. There is an own chapel and an auditorium.

It was found in 1953 by bishop Michael Keller in order to educate about 100 students being priests afterwards. It had had a fee of 100 Marks.

In April 1964 it was changed to a highschool (formerly only an internat). In 1965 the school building at Gerlever Weg was built. 1969 there was the first year when also girls could attend this school. In the same year there was created a building for up to 300 students. In 1979 the last students of the internate gone. In 1980 there was the last changement in building.
