The Sri Lankan sloth bear is a sub species of the sloth bear. It is found mainly in lowland dry forests in Sri Lanka. This spicies is critically endangered, with numbers of these bears thought to be lower than 1,000 bears. The Sri Lankan sloth bear is mainly omnivorous. It feeds on nuts, berries, and roots, as well as carrion and meat. One of its main staples is insects, which it removes form rotting stumps and trees with its long, hairless snout and its naked lips.
