SR USA Class
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Southern Railway USA Class was a class of 14 (plus 1 used for spares) ex-United States Army Transportation Corps S100 Class steam locomotives used for shunting Southampton Docks. They replaced elderly LSWR B4 Class 0-4-0T.
Various modifications were made to them.
They were replaced by British Rail Class 07 (introduced 1962), but nine remained in departmenta and five survived until the end of steam on the Southern Region in 1967.
[edit] Preservation
Four examples have been preserved in England, plus an ex-JZ Class 62, built in 1960 to a broadly similar design.
