The Military history WikiProject Newsletter Issue I - March 2006 |
|
|
Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Military history WikiProject's newsletter! We hope that this new format will help members—especially those who may be unable to keep up with some of the rapid developments that tend to occur—find new groups and programs within the project that they may wish to participate in. Please consider this inital issue to be a prototype; as always, any comments and suggestions are quite welcome, and will help us improve the newsletter in the coming months. [edit] italian aircraft - thanks!
Spot87, thank you so much for your recent Italian WWII aircraft submissions. It's probably pretty obvious that we've not done a very good job covering italian stuff at WP:Air. I see you've added yourself as a participant, and that you're comfortable using conditional templates like {{cite book}} - you might also want to check out the {{airtemp}} template we're using for aircraft specifications. It can make adding specs a bit easier, and updating the format much easier; there's also a place to cite references. Again, thanks and welcome! ericg ✈ 22:14, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- Sounds good. I just discovered that any and all WWI and WWII photos taken in Italy are now public domain! Most of what you find online should be covered by {{PD-Italy}}, so if you find images that work with your articles, make use! ericg ✈ 03:48, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] citing the encyclopedia of weapons of ww2
I've gone and made a template to use when citing The Encyclopedia of Weapons of World War II. The template is {{Ref WW2}}, and it lets you add chapter and page information in the syntax {{ref WW2 | Weapon Name | 123 }}
. The code is a duplicate of the template {{Ref Jane's}}, which I use frequently. Citing chapter and page makes wikipedia that much more verifiable, and it's a quick entry. Here's how it looks with some bogus info:
- ‘Breda Ba.65’ 1998, in C Bishop (ed.), The Encyclopedia of Weapons of World War II, Barnes & Noble, New York, p. 312. ISBN 0-7607-1022-8.
Leaving the fields after ref WW2 blank will output the same information you've been using to date. Thanks again for your recent contributions, I hope to be learning even more about Italian aircraft soon. :) ericg ✈ 03:28, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
- Cool. If you like, you can always double-check what's in wikipedia against your source - lots of aircraft are missing citations for specifications or just missing references in general. If you back them up against a source and cite it, that's just as good as writing a new article. ericg ✈ 15:46, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
