Spotsylvania Towne Centre

Spotsylvania Towne Centre (formerly Spotsylvania Mall) is an enclosed shopping mall in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. It is located just outside the City of Fredericksburg. It was built in 1980 by the Cafaro Co. of Youngstown, Ohio, who still owns the mall to this day.
In 1991, the mall was expanded to add more shops and another anchor store (Hecht's) to the existing Sears, Leggett (now Belk) and the former Montgomery Wards (Costco now occupies this space).
As of March 2006, the mall is in the process of a major renovation. The floors, walls, and ceilings are being replaced, and the renovated mall should look brighter and have a more airy feel.
The mall competes with Central Park which is directly across Virginia State Route 3. The owners of the mall hope that the renovation will help it compete more effectively against Central Park and draw in more shoppers. It also has been speculated that higher-quality stores will locate in the mall once the renovation is complete.
An expansion of the mall, which will add a "lifestyle center," movie theater, and hotel, was approved by the county Board of Supervisors in April 2006. It should be completed by September 2008.
