Spotlight operator
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Spotlight Operator or Followspot Operator is a theatrical technician who operates specialized Stage lighting instruments known as followspots designed to move, change size, beam, and color easily by hand. A Spotlight Operator is expected to have knowledge of all the lighting instruments he or she is working with, and should be able to read through a cue sheet or follow directions from the lighting designer or master electrician. Spotlight operators sometimes work in conjunction with the master electrician, especially in smaller theatres where they may help in positioning and adjusting other lighting instruments. In this case the spotlight operator is expected to have an advanced understanding of theatre lighting principles and the technical aspects of lighting. There is usually a designated area in the catwalks or control room where one or more spotlight operators work.
