Sports entertainment
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sports entertainment is a type of entertainment that superficially takes the form of a sporting event, but with more emphasis on dramatic storylines, humor, spectacle or titillation than on the contest of athletic skills. Some sports entertainment events have a predetermined winner, while in others the winner is determined just as it is in a normal sporting event. The term itself was coined by World Wrestling Entertainment chairman Vince McMahon when describing the first WrestleMania pay-per-view.
The term sports entertainment was created to delineate itself from true athletic competitions that require involvement of the local and state athletic commissions. By doing this the WWE and the wrestlers are able to avoid the heavy fees and licenses’ costs.
