SpongeBob B.C. (Before Comedy), SpongeBob Goes Prehistoric, and/or UGH is a 30 minute Patchy the Pirate special SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season three.

Brief Summary: In Encino, California (As it was 100 million years ago), Patchy is trying to host a prehistoric themed show. However, Potty is convinced that the future is cooler than the past, and engages in a 'war' between the future and the past, threatening Patchy's control over the show. In a prehistoric Bikini Bottom, the ancestors of SpongeBob (SpongeGar), Patrick (Patar), and Squidward (Squog) discover fire. They use it wisely, but how long will it take before they mess it up?

Time/Date: Prehistoric Era

Time cards shown: Meanwhile (shown during Patchy and Potty's argument)

When SpongeGar's pet Gary (A gigantic carnivorous version of the present Gary) makes a slime trail on Squog's lawn, Squog gets angry at SpongeGar. After failing to fix the problem, Squog tries to go back home, but he accidentally slips near Patar's rock. A lightning storm occurs, and it sets a log on fire. SpongeGar, Patar and Squog haven't seen fire before, and can't figure out what it's used for. That is until SpongeGar drops some coral into it, then takes it out with a stick. It tastes better, so they continue to cook things until they are twice their normal size. Afterward, they all go back to their homes until they realize that they have to take care of the fire. So our friends start chasing each other in order to decide who gets the campfire (which doesn't seem to work at all because by the time SpongeGar, Squog, and Pattar start pulling the wood containing the fire, a monsoon comes and drenches the fire until it is put out). SpongeGar and Patar start crying because of it, and Squog starts to point and shout at them. Then another lightning storm occurs and electrocutes Squog. SpongeGar and Patar seeing Squog (now smoked) decide to use him to cook marshmallows.

[edit] Cultural References

  • The scene in which SpongeGar sticks a piece of coral in the fire is similar to the scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey, in the Dawn of Man sequence, with a choir.
  • Before the "When Worlds Collide" Song is sung, Patchy the pirate is sitting on his doorstep, music from the Monkey Island series can be heard.

[edit] Trivia/Goofs

  • The only two English lines that were said during the animation were "Wait a minute", said by Squog, the ancestor of Squidward Tentacles and "Money!", said by the crabs, the ancestors of Eugene H. Krabs. Some prehistoric language lines contain some English words like "Banooga ready", said by SpongeGar, the ancestor of SpongeBob SquarePants.
  • Some scenes from SB-129 were used during the "When Worlds Collide" montage. This episode could be seen as a rehashing of the prehistoric scenes from said episode.
  • One of the foods SpongeGar cooks is a Krabby Patty replica made of sand.
  • Their cloths are edible when heated, but they do not burn. Patar cooked his shirt, ate it, burped back up a patch, wiped his mouth, and ate it again.
  • Squog uses some small pieces and invents the way of making popcorn. Only, instead of boiling it, he sets it on fire.
  • The original captions say Patar's name is Pathar.
  • The YTV captions say Squog's name is Squd.
  • When Gary gets a snail-trail on Squog's rocks it is all over the one closest to his house, but when Squog looks out the window it is all over the third one from his house.
  • Gary resembles a cross between a stegosaurus and a snail. He also can jump.
  • Near the end, Cavey and the Robot Android Cyborg sing "When Worlds Collide." When Cavey sings, it is clearly Bill Fagerbakke's voice, who plays Patrick. Also, Cavey plays the drums a little during the song, a thing Patrick is seen doing many times over the course of the series when Spongebob starts singing a rock song, such as in Band Geeks and The Camping Episode.
  • Squog doesn't have a door on his house until he takes the fire to his house.
  • Besides playing Spongebob, the Narrator, and Patchy, Tom Kenny also voices the robot.
