Spod

Spod is used to refer to a person who uses ew-too-style talkers (it is unheard of with NUTS-style talkers, which make up half of all talkers^{[citation needed]}). The spod tends to be something of a long-term fanatic; many have been using the same talker for a decade or more by now. Talkers are significantly easier to run than an average MUD, since they don't incorporate very much artificial intelligence, and they are usually much more user friendly, since there is not often much fighting as a focus. In other words, whole families of husbands, wives, children, and siblings have been known to spod in certain circles. see: Talker#The culture of talkers They also use very little network traffic, and use simple protocols, making them ideal for setting up quietly at work. Some of the early Talker applications were used to play Dungeons & Dragons over computer networks.

In recent years some internet users have begun to use the word spod as a verb (spodding) to mean the action of sitting at a computer on the internet, and wasting time (by reading webcomics, using internet forums, or reading random pages on Wikipedia, for example).

"Spodding" is also a specific common verb used in fishing to denote the use of a "Spod" or "Spod Rocket" to deliver lose feed for fish to a specific area of a water or river for the purposes of fishing. The "Spod" is normally a container with a nose cone and fins to guide trajectory. The "Spod" is cast via a strong rod, the usual intention being pinpoint accuracy at even long ranges. Upon impact the "Spod" up ends due to its buoyant nose cone and deposits particle bait in the desired position. The technique is standard procedure for carp anglers in the UK and overseas.
