This article isn't the right place for etymological discussions of arbitrary points. I've removed the following passages:

(This practice of comparing the size of a stack of poker chips is the origin of the phrase to stack up against, as in I like this car, but it just does not stack up against Joe's Mercedes.)
[Unfortunate players receiving such a fractional pot call it being quartered], in reference to the torture technique of being "drawn and quartered"
Poker commentators, when referring to splitting the pot because of a tie, often say that "splitting the pot is like kissing your sister."
