Split pea

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Split peas are a split form of certain peas which are commonly used to make pea soup.

Yellow split peas are sometimes referred to as a synonym for toor dal (split pigeon peas) or chana dal (split desi chickpeas). This is incorrect, however.[citation needed] Although the appearance is similar to chana dal (toor dal is thinner) split peas have a different taste and a greater tendency to thicken the liquid when cooked, compared to most other legumes.
