[edit] List of famous spinsters

Given the generally pejorative/patriarchal usage of "spinster," is it really necessary to include famous spinsters? It feels almost POV in the sense of that, in labeling these notable women as spinsters, we say it's noteworthy that they never got married, and that in turn lends subtle support to the idea that a women is supposed to get married before she dies. Of course, this is an idea which many would disagree with. Certainly, Elizabeth I is notable for never marrying, given the importance of marriage to the political future of an absolutist monarchy. But the other women? I'm not so sure it's as important as the list seems to suggest. ProfessorFokker 09:53, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
