"Spitting Games" was originally the first single from Snow Patrol's third album, Final Straw. The original failed to reach the UK Top 40 but was re-released in July 2004 after the success of "Run" and "Chocolate", reaching number 23 on this occasion.

It was featured on the video game MVP Baseball 2004 and numerous Club Football 2005 titles.
