Spirit of Eden (1988) |
Laughing Stock (1991) |
Spirit of Eden is a 1988 album by Talk Talk, their fourth by this point. While not as noticed as its 1991 follow-up Laughing Stock, it bears a strong resemblance to it, and many fans actually prefer it to Laughing Stock. Talk Talk's label EMI forced the band to choose a single from the album, and they chose "I Believe In You," which despite lack of commercial success, was a huge artistic success.
The album itself took eleven months to record and went far over its budget as well as past its deadline. Unable to release the album with any chance of commercial success, EMI dropped the band from their label and later sued them for breach of contract[1].
