The Spindle Trooper is a fictional species of sea spider depicted in the program The Future is Wild as existing 100 million years in Earth's future. It can grow to 3 feet across and exists in a symbiotic relationship with another fictional creature, the Ocean Phantom, a future descendant of Siphonophora (creatures related to the Portuguese Man O' War). When the Ocean Phantom is attacked by another fictional creature, the Reef Glider, the Ocean Phantom releases the Spindle Troopers to protect itself. Upon being released, the Spindle Troopers climb down the tentacles of the Ocean Phantom and spear the predatory Reef Gliders with its poisonous fangs. In return for protection, the Ocean Phantom feeds the Spindle Troopers.
