[edit] Release information and Translations

Should these two sections be merged? Alex Nisnevich 00:23, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, yes. Done! Now it only needs to be expanded. I think there is also a translation in German, and possibly others... I'll try to dig up information on the German edition, but there must be other translations to languages I don't speak. prezzey 00:53, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question about The Gigantic Fluctuation

Was this story only included in the Russian edition, or in the English as well? The Arkady and Boris Strugatsky article seems to say that it was included in both. Alex Nisnevich 00:30, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't know; I was just about to ask in the main Strugatsky article's talk section. The used bookstore data Google turned up seemed to indicate that it only had a foreword by Theodore Sturgeon (oops, I forgot to add that to the article) and no additional material. The Hungarian edition definitely doesn't have it... prezzey 00:46, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
The text of Probationers in English was placed online long ago... [1] As it is, it includes a short story about A Giant Fluctuation. ellol 11:46, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
The originally Russian edition and the second English translation (as Probationers) novel include the GF story but I cann't find information that Probationers was issued as paper book. So I think the novel's 1st English edition (as Space Apprentice) didn't include the GF story as it has published much earlier separately in 1973 compilation Journey Across Three Worlds (issued in the Soviet Union) and in 1979 pb comp. Twenty Houses of the Zodiac (issued in London). However I do not have the Space Apprentice book and I am not assured. NERV 10:09, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Yes, but that translation is relatively recent (2004) and hasn't been published in book form as far as I'm aware. I tend to side with NERV on this one. Well, we'll just have to wait until someone turns up who actually has the English editions! - prezzey 01:19, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
