Spavin

In equine veterinary medicine there are two types of spavins, both relating to the hock:
- Bone spavin is degenerative joint disease of the distal intertarsal and tarsometatarsal joints of the hock.
- Bog spavin is synovial distension of the tarsocrural (or tibiotarsal) joint of the hock.
