Spain has a long tradition of making gardens. Significant gardens were made:
- By the Romans
- By the Islamic rulers of Southern Spain (for example, the Alhambra)
- By owners of castle in the medieval period
- By Christian kings during the Renaissance and Baroque periods (for example, the La Granja)
- By landowning and business families during the Romantic and Modern periods (for example, the Park Guell)
In twenty-first century Spain, gardens are designed by horticulturalists, architects and landscape architecture professions.
