Space Brothers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Space Brothers aka Space People were the type of "space alien" normally reported by "classic" contactees, those who claimed to have had face-to-face encounters with flying saucer crewmembers and (usually) rides in their saucers, beginning in 1952 with George Adamski and continuing with many inspired by him, including Truman Bethurum, Daniel Fry, Orfeo Angelucci, George King, George Van Tassel, Buck Nelson, Howard Menger and many more, throughout the decade of the 1950s. Ashtar Galactic Command, Ruth Norman, Billy Meier and Raël espouse similar claims today.

[edit] Physical appearance

As generally described, the Space Brothers look completely human, in fact Caucasian. They are often described as being slightly shorter than the average male of the 1950s. They generally have light shades of hair and light-colored eyes, and act as if in the peak of health.

[edit] Culture

They either claim to be able to speak all earth's languages, or communicate via telepathy and don't use spoken languages of any kind. They generally claim to be from utopian societies where there is no war, crime, violence of any kind, disease, poverty, or hunger. They generally claim to be extremely and conventionally religious in outlook, and to guide their lives successfully by simplistic and naive spiritual "rules". They also usually claim that in their culture there is no distinction between science and religion. They generally claim to have lifespans of roughly a thousand years, and to remain at vigorous "middle age" for almost that entire span. They are generally described as eating only fruits and vegetables, and drinking only fruit juice or "nectar." They generally wear one-piece garments like jump suits, with no visible equipment or insignia. Female space brothers are conventionally described as incredibly beautiful and voluptuous, but males are also described as facially resembling very beautiful terrestrial women.

[edit] Technology

Their space ships as described have large, empty interior spaces, with few seats, and their technology seems to depend on large, single objects with no internal or moving parts: lenses, crystals, magnets, etc. Control panels, if any, resemble those of very-low-budget Hollywood movies and live space adventure TV series of 1950-1952, with large war-surplus-appearing dials, knobs, meters and switches. The metals used are often said to appear iridescent or translucent, and can be made transparent.

The Space Brothers were asserted to be found on every planet of the solar system, and on all planets orbiting other stars... in other words, all intelligent life in the universe is said to be entirely human in appearance and biology.

[edit] Popularization

More than any other single influence, the 1951 motion picture The Day the Earth Stood Still was the first to depict most of the details that quickly became standard over the next few years, as key parts of the Space Brother mythos.
