[edit] Overview
Space4k is an online, browser-based Real-time strategy game similar to a game called Ogame in many aspects. It is also a game very similar in ways of a game called vendetta1923. It is set in a fictional universe full of diverse empires and alliances. Upon the completion of the free registration process, the player starts with one planet in the area of their choosing where they may create different buildings to increase the planet's production of resources, research combat boosting technologies that upgrade existing ships and allow for more powerful variants. Then, should the player feel he or she is ready to expand, they can colonize planets using a dynamic and easy to use ‘Galactic Viewing’ system similar to that of Ogame only without a fee of resources for each page refresh.
There is a sort of ‘plot’ for Space4k, but it more resembles a sparse collection of facts about an ancient empire or mysterious alien race. The strongest ship in the game is an alien vessel that is ‘Discovered’ and reproduced. Many players are under the impression that it is ‘Summoned’ through the use of advances Space Folding technologies from some alternate universe, as Space Folding, Ionization, and Energy Focalization technologies are prerequisites.
[edit] The Plot
The Coljinarz Wars are a fictional battle that took place between the years 2167 and 2175, and was marked by the heavy usage of the 'Spit class' vessel which, according to ingame details, were once privatly used by an Emperor of one of the unknown plot nations. It is assumed that these wars took place much earlier prior to the games start, as the Spit is a low level ship used towards the beginning of the game.
[edit] Economy
The Space4k economy is based on how many mines a player has on his or her planet(s), which is calculated with a series of equations. All players start with a base production of 10 Iron, 10 Lutinum, and 10 Water per hour, which is quickly brought up to far more with the construction of more mines.
[edit] Iron
The first resource is Iron, which is mined from the planets via Iron Mines the player builds on his planet. Iron is used in almost everything, from Ship and Defense Construction, to Research, to Building Construction, especially early on in the game. Iron is not worth much trade wise because of its ease of production, and it becomes used less and less as the player progresses and more powerful ships and upgrades become available.
[edit] Lutinum
Lutinum, a fictional crystalline mineral is the second resource in the game and is mined from the planets via a Lutinum Raffinary that the player has constructed on his planet. Lutinum is used more and more towards the mid stages of the game, especially in the construction of Attack based Ships and Defense Towers and is the second most valuable resource, with the only restricting factor on its production being the quickly rising cost of building a Lutinum Raffinary.
[edit] Water
Water is drilled from the planet’s surface with Drilling Rigs which are the cheapest resource producing buildings to make. Before the game’s reset Water was mostly useless and produced in such quantities that most players used it as ‘Resource Fodder’, which meant it was used to fill up an attacking enemy’s cargo holds with the substance, thereby saving the more valuable resources, however in the post-reset game water has been made harder to produce, and has therefore risen slightly in value.
[edit] Hydrogen
Hydrogen is the most valuable resource in the game, and is produced in Chemical Plants and Enhanced Chemical Plants using Water drilled from the planet’s surface from Drilling Rigs. Hydrogen is used later in the game for Ship, Defense Tower, and Research completion.
[edit] Combat
The post-reset combat system is a more tactics oriented version of the previous, with the most powerful ship, the Sentih, having been toned down a notch to allow the previously useless Defense Towers to gain some worth. In Space4k, research plays an incredibly important role in combat, as does the player’s ‘Battle power’, which is calculated from how many planets he or she controls, and how high his or her diplomacy technology is. In similar games, like Ogame, combat can also lead to debris fields and even moons, both of which are not available in Space4k, however, the use of Storage Buildings allows a player to protect a certain amount of resources per level, which means a planet can’t be completely cleaned out, and allows for faster reconstruction times. This has led Space4k to be more known for its diplomacy and alliance based strategies, rather than for the chaotic wars that have plagued Ogame since its creation.
[edit] Newbie Protection
There is no Newbie Protection in Space4k, and as far as anyone knows, there never will be, this is good and bad. It’s bad because newbies can be attacked on their very first day by players much more powerful then they are, causing a massive turnover rate among newcomers, and relying on the honor and word of the individual player or an alliance to not attack newbies. For the most part, there aren’t many problems with newbie bashing. It’s good because there is no massive anticipation by more powerful players who are just waiting for you to pass the mark before you can be attacked, and therefore there is no specific point that they wait for you to pass, some players aren’t attacked until long after they have reached some of the more powerful ships.
[edit] The Coordinate System
The Space4k Universe is split into various sections, mainly to make navigation of the various systems easier. Player’s planets are represented by a set of three numbers which are laid out like this: XX:YY:ZZZ. The X represents the Galaxy the planet is in; there are only 50 Galaxies in the game, per game server. A Galaxy represented by the letter Y is a block of 50 Solar Systems. A Solar System is what you see in the ‘Galaxy View’, which has the capability of representing exactly 255 planets, which are represented by the letter Z.
[edit] Alliances
Alliances in Space4k are groups of players who officially join together in a single self promoting organization which protects and supports its members through military action against aggressors, or resource contributions. Advantages of joining an alliance are that each alliance has its own private message board, where players can swap intelligence on enemies or organize the trading of resources between players.
