[edit] Proposed additions to Whitelist (sites to unblock)

This section is for proposing that a website be whitelisted; add new entries at the bottom of the section. Please use the basic URL so that there is no link (google.ca, not http://www.google.ca). Completed requests will be marked as done or denied and archived. Please make sure to explain why the site should be whitelisted, and which pages would benefit from the addition of the link.

[edit] External link on Dick Turpin

Please whitelist hometown.aol.co.uk/_ht_a/justinrclapham/dickturpin1.html which contains a photo of Turpin's gravestone.Phase4 21:55, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Not done for now; can another site or picture be used instead? I'm a little hesitant about whitelisting any hometown.aol sites. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 03:14, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi, looking more closely at this page, it seems there's some kind of problem about hometown.aol sites. Earlier this week, I asked for access to be given to a German hometown.aol page because it has pictures of rare Citroen cars that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. This request for access to pictures of Dick Turpin's gravestone looks fairly innocuous though technically more expert people might be able to identify a problem with it.
At the same time, there's a suggestion higher up that access to the particular page ought to be sufficient. I agree with that. But my problem is that the one particular page I'm interested in is blocked by what seems to be a blanket exclusion of all hometown.aol pages. Is it possible for the experts to look at this and see whether the blocking is working as intended? Obviously, there must be some harmful pages on hometown.aol or it wouldn't have been blocked. But the two examples I've looked at seem to be harmless pictures of worthwhile topics - Dick Turpin and rare Citroen cars. Is there a way for these individual pages (and perhaps others requested on this page) to be released while keeping the harmful stuff at bay? Hope you can help. Adrian Robson 10:25, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Done Okay, I'm going to try and whitelist the specific site for Turpin you mentioned above. I'm still hesitant about whitelisting all of the .aol.co.uk site, but hopefully this should allow you to add that one site. My regex to the spam blacklist may be incorrect for this, so please let me know if it doesn't work. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 03:35, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sinaia Monastery official site

I am working to complete the page for the Sinaia Monastery in Romania when I discovered the home site is on a spam list. I agree, that 3x.ro domain has a lot of problems and mainly because it is free hosting. But again, this is the reason why the people who volunteered to make those pages picked that service. So is it possible to allow just this link: http://www.manastireasinaia.3x.ro/ IonIonescu 11:10, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Comment Just out of curiosity, I accessed this site. I'm on a DSL connection with a tested bandwith of 1892.4 kbps and it took 2 minutes to load; never finished loading (status bar still says "(1 item remaining)"; and not all the pictures loaded automatically. I pity anyone with dialup. Additionally, this is the English Wikipedia; the site is in Romanian (or some other Slavic language). Lastly, the hit counter for the site is 11,017 for a site that shows a copyright of 2003. I can't imagine that access to the site adds to the content of the article or would be very useful to users.Chidom talk  15:42, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
a homepage of a religious institution shld be blacklisted because it's slow & 'not enough' people visit it? re romanian, the {{ro icon}} is there. (btw it took me no more than 5 secs to load)   bsnowball  13:34, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
That's not what I said—nor meant. (And the fact that it's a religious site has nothing to do with anything.) I've tried the site again, it seems to work better if the "www" is included in the url, so I've changed the url above to reflect that (and written it in regular "www.http" form using the <nowiki> codes).Chidom talk  03:19, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] vote4kallmeyer.netfirms.com

I'm not sure what is causing this to be blacklisted (I'm new to this aspect of Wikipedia), but this link is to a Toronto city council candidate's website. There are already a hundred of them on the Toronto municipal election, 2006 page. It would be very unfair to block this one out. Wolfchild 05:03, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Newell's Old Boys is a well-known Argentine soccer club whose official website is hosted by websamba.com. This is the website of a bookstore specializing in vintage erotic books, magazines, and other materials. [edit] w*w.suchy.wz.cz w*w.borova.wz.cz

wz.cz is a domain used by company providing free webhosting. If possible, please put third level domains w*w.suchy.wz.cz (my personal page, for a long time listed on DMOZ) and w*w.borova.wz.cz (official fansite about actress Magdaléna Borová, already active link on cs:Magdaléna Borová) on the whitelist. Many thanks JanSuchy 10:33, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Link to Images of Locomotives At Steamtown NHS

I was attempting to add a link to my personal site containing images of locomotives taken at Steamtown. The URL is ( danks.netfirms.com/locos.htm ) I received a rejection by the spam filter. [edit] xops-repository.awardspace.com

'awardspace.com' is a free webhosting service. The typical website name is 'mypage.awardspace.com'. site for the IBM cell compiler. completely non-harmful. --gatoatigrado 07:03, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

actually it's more than only that. As before, it should be fine; it was probably accidentally triggered by another filter. No one blocked ibm.com, and this site isn't any different in target audience, etc. --gatoatigrado 08:58, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] www.whale.to/b/ph2.html

This is the second time an admin blocked this specific page. I already had it accepted on the whitelist once here. Is there no memory kept of specific whitelisted pages? The admin cited copyright violation. But as I pointed out last time, the author gave permission. It says on the page: "This excerpt is posted here with the kind permission of the author." It is hard to find Phoenix Program info on the web. So it is important that this link stay up. It is POV to block it in my opinion. Several people have tried to censor this Phoenix Program wikipedia page over time. Some carelessly, and some purposely. See the history. Is there a way to mark this link on the page so that a third admin does not try to delete it? --Timeshifter 02:51, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

You should most likely follow the procedures at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission and then document the author's permission formally at Wikipedia:Successful requests for permission with a reference to the success (and a link to its entry at the "Successful" page) on the article's talk page. If, heaven forfend, you should no longer be able to contribute to Wikipedia, this would provide an ongoing reference so as to avoid someone else having to repeat your efforts.Chidom talk  06:10, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
I found an alternative solution. I did some Google searches and found the original website that was given permission to host Chapter 24 of the book online. Along with another page on that site further explaining the author's permission.--Timeshifter 06:45, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] http://ezboardsux.ds4a.com/

There is no reason this site should be blocked. It's not spam, has no downloads, and is merely an informational page recording the historical event online. It deals with the Hack/Outage of ezboard.com during May 2005. It brings to light the lies that were told and the serious extent of the problem. Literally millions of people lost everything they'd ever had on their sites and got not a penny back for the years of monies paid for a service not rendered. Any blacklisting of this site is by ezboard officials who, to this day, try to lie and belittle the serverity of the outage and it's problems. (How is one supposed to reply and request removal when it triggers the blacklist?? I've never posted it before nor have I spammed anyone with it so it's frustrating that a massive page that is non-hostile and is merely informational is being treated thusly!)—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.126.64.168 (talk • contribs) 10:18, November 6, 2006.

[edit] Meatspin.com

I guess I put this in the wrong place so I put it here.

I noticed when editing the Shock site article that the aforementioned site is blacklisted. This site is listed on the Shock site page and I believe for that reason, it should be whitelisted as it is part of the article.

Thanks,

Faris b 19:41, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

The whole reason it was blacklisted was to stop it being spammed to shock site and other such articles. Whitelisting it would be missing the point rather. Guy 22:56, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 20six.co.uk

The 20six domain suffered a very big spam attack in January and I think this is what may have caused it to be blacklisted. The site has since been overhauled and all spam sites removed. It would be beneficial for people to be able to add links to relevant information on sites hosted at 20six to Wikipedia articles. [edit] TVRage

Could someone whitelist h**p://www.tvrage.com ? it is a legitimate tv information site that is useful for adding as a source of link on pages regarding shows and/or actors. I can't seem to think of any reason for it being considered a spam site. Diemunkiesdie 06:55, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Not done per this. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 03:16, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
I looked over those pages and I have to note that none of those discussions make TVRage a spam site. It is obviously not a spam site, I simply prefer to link to the site that has more info and when TVRage is a better source I would like to be able to properly cite it. It is obviously a noteworthy site (as per its Alexa ranking of 26,083 as of 03:45, 23 November 2006 (UTC)) that is relavent to many articles about TV Shows and/or entertainers. I again request that it be unblocked because even if it was not a "good" or "noteworthy" site before, it certainly is now. (Note also that it is not really a for profit site).

[edit] Luis Fonsi

I attempted to make a minor edit in the birthyear of Luis Fonsi (who shows up in the article and many other external sources as being born in 1978 but in the appendix is listed under 1972 births for some reason), and I was blocked from making that edit by the Spam Filter. Please assist with this as I'm not sure why this is happening (and there are few greater enemies of spammers than myself - how I hate them). I have been a long time loyal Wikipedian... Wikicali00 23 November 2006

I've added the specific site, lucky22\.awardspace.com\/fonsi, to the whitelist; the domain awardspace is on the spam blacklist, and any edits on a page with that URL would have automatically triggered the spam blacklist, preventing editing until either the link was removed or added to the whitelist (or removed from the blacklist.) Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 03:46, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Grand National, F A cup & League Championship pages

This site can be found at hometown.aol.co.uk/captainbeecher/ {although due to an error in the creation of the site that particular page is not the homepage of the full site. click home when visiting to get you to the homepage} I am the creator of this site, which to my knowledge is the only detailed year by year history of the Grand National steeplechase on the web. My content is quoted in great detail on many of Wikipedia's grand national related pages, which is fine except that these quotes {and there are a good few of them} are being published without credit as my site is blacklisted from being linked on wikipedia. I am more than happy for my content, which is the result of considerable research into contemporary reports of the race and has corrected many factual errors that have been published down the years, to be used in Wikipedia but cannot allow this content to be published without proper site link to the source material. I have read that other pages within hometown.co.uk have been whitelisted and feel that if my content is good enough to be quoted by wikipedia then so in turn should the site be whitelisted. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Norniron (talkcontribs) 05:45, 24 November 2006.

[edit] earthsuit.awardspace.com

Please whitelist earthsuit.awardspace.com! The site is a legacy forum for the band Earthsuit. Unfortunately it appears that all sites on awardspace.com have been blacklisted for frequent spam, but this forum has had nothing to do with that. It is instead a hub of archived information on Earthsuit as well as a source of official news for the bands that have sprung from it as well: Mute Math, MACROSICK, and Club Of The Sons.

Because Earthsuit no longer maintains an official webpage, this forum is the central site where fans of all three associated acts congregate and is the best comprehensive source of accurate information on the band that remains. Souldier77 09:53, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] welcome.to/The.Huddersfield.Singers/

The Wikipedia page about the Huddersfield Singers should contain an external link to the choir's Web site. However, it has apparently been removed because the entire welcome.to domain appears to have been blacklisted. I would like the choir's site to be whitelisted because it's entirely legitimate. The welcome.to URL is a simple redirection to another URL. However, I would prefer the actual URL not to be referred to explicitly because it may change (indeed, it has changed twice in the past). The choir's publicity refers to the redirection-URL exclusively, so it's important that this Wikipedia page should use the same address. The choir is a registered charity which needs as much publicity as it gets, and it generates no spam, so please permit its site to be linked to from the Wikipedia page as it used to be! Please, whitelist www.anysubs.com - we are a subtitles multilingual collection resource from which people can benefit by freely downloading and sharing their subtitles to enjoy the movies, series and anime in the language they understand (or if they are hearing-impaired). The site has been added to the "subtitles" article in wikipedia under external links section for languages, which it has subtitles for. There has been no violation or false positioning of this resource and it is not a commercial service. Many other multilingual sites are there in the external links sections and are not blacklisted. Please, whitelist - we helping people. Furthermore, someone has blacklisted us in german, french, finnish, while keeping competitors, so I have a feeling this is merely an attempt at toppling competition.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lost Angel (talkcontribs) 10:45, 2 December 2006.

Wikipedia has a guideline against linking to copyright infringements because case law in the United States is that such links may constitute contributory copyright infringement. Are the subtitles on anysubs.com prepared and published with the cooperation of the owners of copyright in the underlying movies, series, and anime? --Damian Yerrick () 04:13, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Subtitles on AnySubs.com are freely available for upload and download - the content is not checked for possible copyright infringement - for that one would have to have the original scripts at hand. However, no single copyright owner has contacted us regarding the violation of his or her property rights - we are always willing to cooperate and will comply with the law if such cases take place. Then why are other subtitle databases not blacklisted furthermore? Lost Angel 22:08, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

cld u please unblock the specific pages www.suite101.com/article.cfm/performance_poetry/109382 and www.suite101.com/article.cfm/performance_poetry/109382/2 they're a review of a book of poems by an author of whom there's not much on the net (i looked to see if it was hosted elsewhere, no luck). the second p is almost useless but no doubt someone will ask for it if they can get the 1st but not that. thnx   bsnowball  16:53, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] typhoonDOTto

For some reason you have blocked typhoonDOTto. The page in question (Critical mass) has a legitimate link to a site which is typhoonDOTtokai-scDOTjaeaDOTgoDOTjp. Could somebody please work their magic so that a blocking of typhoonDOTto does not block every site which has typhoonDOTto in its URL because that is blocking a legitimate site and preventing editing on a page. Or you could whitelist the link in question. THANK YOU. --Fastfission 14:49, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed removals from Whitelist (sites to block)

This section is for proposing that a website be unlisted; please add new entries at the bottom of the section. Remember to provide the specific URL whitelisted, links to the articles they are used in or useful to, and arguments in favor of unlisting. Completed requests will be marked as done or denied and archived.

[edit] adam1213.funpic.org

Seems to have been added solely tro provide one link in Konquest to an online game of no obvious benefit to the article. Guy 11:25, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

The benefit to the article should be decided by someone that has played konquest, or wants to know more about konquest --Adam1213 Talk + 14:48, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
It's not in the article any more. I don't see a reason to block someone's personal site. If it shouldn't be in the article, change the article. I have a link to my site on my user page, and I don't want that blacklisted. --gatoatigrado 08:54, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Troubleshooting and problems

This section is for comments related to problems with the whitelist (such as incorrect syntax or entries not being allowed). This is not the section to request that an entry be listed or unlisted (see above). Completed requests will be archived

[edit] Discussion

Well, creating a new section since I'm not sure where to put this comment... perhaps we should also start logging additions to the spam whitelist, similar to how it's done on Meta? This would make it easier to locate the admin who placed the site on the whitelist, once it gets bigger, if needed, and also document when the site was added and for what reason, without having to look through the history. Thoughts? Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 14:11, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] If

we are attempting to insert an edit that includes no external weblinks, we get blocked, based on what someone else had added to the page. This should be corrected. We should, as well, be informed why a weblink is blocked. Yet further, there should be exemptions for a block, based on context, intent, and other factors.

Here is the notice:

Spam protection filter
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The spam filter blocked your page save because it
detected a blacklisted hyperlink. You may have added it yourself, the link may have been added by another editor before it was blacklisted, or you may be infected by spyware that adds links to wiki pages. You will need to remove all instances of the blacklisted URL before you can save.
You can request help removing the link, request that the link be removed from the blacklist, or report a possible error on the Spam blacklist talk page. If you'd like to allow a particular link without removing similar links from the blacklist, you can request whitelisting on the Spam whitelist talk page.

Which article are you trying to edit? Naconkantari 03:57, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm getting the same thing trying to edit "Golden Team". An existing link to www.worldcupyears.com apparently causes the spam filter to refuse my harmless and unrelated edits elsewhere in the article. What is so harmful about that football link escapes me as well. It appears the spam filter has gone haywire and needs to be stopped before it destroys wikipedia and the world at large. Afasmit 02:15, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Here's the request to block the "*years.com" sites. Have you tried removing the link to worldcupyears.com if the site is now banned? --Damian Yerrick () 04:42, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Alternatively, if the site is reasonable, spam-whitelisting here may also be an option. In addition, section editing has sometimes worked, if you're editing a section without the blacklisted site. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:53, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ww

I need to post something on WP:AN about Wikipedia-Watch (a major favor that Daniel B has done for us), and I got blocked. Can someone help with that? DS 01:24, 23 October 2006 (UTC) Never mind, I realized that I could do it as plaintext. DS 12:58, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bias

To mark Daniel Brandt`s wikipedia watch as spam is biased, as it clearly is not. Please whitelist immediately, or change the NPOV policy to the Wikipedia admins POV policy... Andycjp 7th Dec 2006.

First of all, please be civil. Secondly, they're blacklisted for a reason: hosting personal information on Wikipedia users, including kids. Sure, it's not a spam, but no less (or even more) inappropriate to link. MaxSem 16:01, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

I disagree. How can wikipedia be trusted with information if it silences its enemies? Andycjp 7/12/2006

Publishing personal information on minors is prohibited by US laws. Consequently, such sites shouldn't be linked to. Btw, Wikipedia Review fails WP:RS miserably, so it is inappropriate to link it from mainspace anyway. MaxSem 16:43, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
