Souths Magpies are one of the foundation clubs of the Queensland Cup, which began in 1996. After being formed as Carltons in the 1920s, with the advent of District Football, they changed their name to Southern Suburbs.
They play out of one of Brisbane's oldest Rugby league grounds, Davies Park, in West End. In 2002 there was talk of a possible merger of the club with the financially stricken Logan Scorpions, but this changed when Souths took over Logan. Since 2003, Souths have been playing under the name of Souths-Logan Magpies.
