Southern Rhodesian pound
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The pound was the currency of Southern Rhodesia from 1940 until 1956. It also circulated in Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland. The pound was divided into 20 shillings, each of 12 pence.
Before 1940, private banks issued notes denominated in British pounds. These were replaced at par by the Southern Rhodesian pound. Southern Rhodesia, Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland joined in 1953 to form the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland which continued to use the Southern Rhodesian pound for several years. They began issuing the Rhodesia and Nyasaland pound in 1956.
