Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) is a regional accreditor for over 13,000 public and private educational institutions ranging from preschool to college level in the Southern United States. SACS is one of six regional accrediting organizations recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS's Commission on Colleges accredits schools in Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas.

SACS-COC accredits universities and colleges in Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas and Latin America (Extraterritorial).

Every six months, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges publishes an online report of public sanctions of institutions of higher learning.[1] The reports include specific sanctions of schools and quality reports of schools failing to meet SACS standards. The commission also provides updates of reaffirmed accreditation.

At the university level, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges has accredited large public institutions such as the University of Virginia, the University of Kentucky, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, East Carolina University, George Mason University, Old Dominion and the University of Southern Mississippi; private colleges including Bellarmine University, Davidson College, Duke University, Elon University, High Point University, Wake Forest University, the University of Tampa,and Vanderbilt University; and military schools such as The Citadel.

There are 6 institutions accredited in Latin America: Fundación Universidad de las Américas, Puebla; Universidad de las Americas, A.C.; Universidad de Monterrey; Tecnológico de Monterrey; Instituto Centroamericano de Administración de Empresas; and Inter American Academy of Guayaquil.

The SACS has also accredited many smaller community colleges like Alamance Community College and Vance-Granville Community College.
