Southeastern University of the Assemblies of God

Southeastern University is a private, Christian, non-profit undergraduate and graduate institution of higher education located in Lakeland, Florida in the USA. It was established in 1935 as a Bible college, and became a liberal arts college in 1970. The University has formerly been known as South-Eastern Bible Institute (1935-1956), South-Eastern Bible College (1956-1977), and Southeastern College of the Assemblies of God (1977-2005). It is still affiliated with the Assemblies of God, a Protestant, Pentecostal denomination.

Official enrollment for the 2006-07 academic year was 2,911 students representing 43 states and more than 20 foreign countries. More than 20 percent of the students are ethnic minorities. Students come from varied academic backgrounds. Before enrolling at Southeastern, students have attended public, private and Christian schools; others have been homeschooled. They come from a variety of denominations, though approximately 70% are from an Assemblies of God background. The top states represented are Florida, Ohio, Alabama, North Carolina, and Georgia.

Southeastern offers 45 programs leading to bachelor's and master's degrees, including an MBA. All students are required to complete 54 hours of general education course work in addition to their major. The school is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The president of Southeastern is Mark Rutland, Ph.D., a highly sought-after speaker and author who also hosts a daily syndicated Christian radio program called Herald of Joy.

In 2007 Southeastern will host its first ever annual leadership forum themed: "Igniting the flame of servant leadership.

2007's Forum will feature many prominent Christian leaders and is scheduled for March 15-17, 2007.

The speakers in 2007 include Tommy Barnett, Ken Blanchard, Tony Dungy, Tony Evans, Craig Groeschel, Bill Hybels, Laurie Beth Jones, John Maxwell, Erwin McManus, Mark Rutland, and Ed Young Jr.

Mission: To develop Southeastern athletes holistically: physically, academically, and spiritually. As a department, we strive to foster character, servant leadership, and the development of life skills while providing a professional environment in Christian athletics.

Teams: Cheerleading, Mens Basketball, Mens Baseball, Mens Golf, Mens Soccer, Womens Basketball, Womens Soccer, Womens Tennis, Womens Volleyball.
