From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Southeast Michigan, also called Southeastern Michigan, is a region in the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan that is home to a majority of the state's residents, businesses, and industries. The region is home to Detroit, the state's largest city (and the nation's eleventh largest), and the numerous communities that make up the larger Metro Detroit area. Other important cities in Southeastern Michigan include Ann Arbor, home of the University of Michigan's main campus, Flint, and Monroe. Each of these cities has their own metropolitan statistical area. With 4,488,335 people, Metro Detroit is the tenth largest metropolitan area in the United States. Flint's MSA ranks 106th with a population of 443,883, and Ann Arbor's MSA ranks 141st with 341,847.
The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) defines Southeast Michigan as Livingston , Macomb , Monroe , Oakland, St. Clair , Washtenaw, and Wayne counties.
