Southbridge is a census-designated place (CDP) located in the city of Southbridge in Worcester County, Massachusetts. The population was 12,878 at the 2000 census.

Southbridge is located at 42°4′42″N, 72°2′16″W (42.078382, -72.037903)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 13.7 km² (5.3 mi²). 13.6 km² (5.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (0.76%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 12,878 people, 5,336 households, and 3,286 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 947.1/km² (2,452.7/mi²). There were 5,720 housing units at an average density of 420.7/km² (1,089.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 83.15% White, 1.45% Black or African American, 0.43% Native American, 1.82% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 10.37% from other races, and 2.72% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 23.86% of the population.

There were 5,336 households out of which 30.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.7% were married couples living together, 16.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.4% were non-families. 31.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $31,745, and the median income for a family was $38,865. Males had a median income of $34,842 versus $23,125 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $17,104. About 15.3% of families and 18.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 31.1% of those under age 18 and 12.5% of those age 65 or over.
