[edit] Overview
Due to the high amount of homosexuality subject matter seen in the show, it would seem obvious that fans and fan fiction writers would come up with reasons to write this type of fan fiction. The most common pairing is Stan/Kyle. Others include Kyle/Kenny, Cartman/Kyle, and Tweak/Craig. Due to the fact that in the show, the characters are only 9 years old, the vast majority of South Park slash fiction has them aged in the stories (usually between 15 and 19). As with all slash fiction, there are 2 types of South Park slash: Lime and Lemon. Lime means little if any graphic sexual content and Lemon means high on sexual and graphic content. However, websites such as the ever-popular fanfiction.net do not make use of these distinctions.
[edit] Stan/Kyle
The most common pair in South Park slash is Stan/Kyle. The main reason their strong relationship with each other in the show. Although Stan has had a girlfriend (Wendy Testaburger) until she broke up with him in Season 7 and that Stan & Kyle are only considered "best friends", many instances within the show display the possibility of something more either currently or in the future. The fact that they are almost always seen together, and the fact that Kyle has shown almost no interest in girls are the two main reasons. In recent episodes however Stan/Kyle has been becoming more apparent. 2 examples would be:
- 910 Follow that Egg!: In this episode, Mr. Garrison winds up pairing Stan/Kyle up for a school project related to pretending to be married and taking care of an egg as a baby. At the end, Stan & Kyle's project wound up convincing the governor to legalize gay marriage.
- 1001 The Return of Chef: At the beginning of this episode, Stan & Kyle are seen watching the sunset together at Stark's Pond in the same way Wendy and Stan had been seen doing on an occasion. When Stan showed concern over Chef's leaving, Kyle leans over and puts his arm around Stan. This scene was used in a Comedy Central promo for Season 10 which aired halfway through the first half of the season. It displayed this image as a post card.
In addition, the closeness of Stan and Kyle has been made fun of in some episodes. Examples of these can be seen in episodes such as:
Randy Marsh: You can't just hang out with your buddy Kyle all the time. People will think you guys are, you know, funny.
- 504 Super Best Friends:
Kyle: Thanks for saving us, Stan. You're my Super Best Friend. Stan: You're my Super Best Friend too, Kyle. Cartman: Oh, that's so sweet, you guys. You wanna go get a room so you can make out for a while?
Stan and Kyle's concern for each other has been the focus of many episodes. Each has gone out of their way to save the other's life. However, these actions are meant to imply friendship.

[edit] Controversy among South Park fans
As with all slash fiction, South Park slash has its controversy among fans of the show. The main arguments for it are the high amount of homosexuality-related content seen in the show, closeness between the characters and freedom of expression. The main arguments against it are the characters age in the series and (in regards to Stan/Kyle) are simply "best friends" and nothing more. After this happened there was a great invasion by little dudes like the clangers.
