South Norwood Country Park

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

South Norwood Country Park is a park in South Norwood, close to Elmers End station, in the London Borough of Croydon. It is located on the site of an old sewage farm that closed in 1967.

Work began on creating the Country Park in the late 1980s, by landscaping the area and the digging of a lake on the site. It has preserved wetland habitats and many different types of birds and butterflies can be seen at the park.

The Country Park is the source of the Chaffinch Brook, near the Harrington Road tram station. This brook had to be diverted during the construction of Tramlink. The Chaffinch eventually joins the river Beck in Cator Park.

As well as Elmers End station, the Park is served by Arena tram station and Harrington Road tram station.
