It is a suburban development situated 13.6 miles (21.8 km) east of Charing Cross.
The Beam River forms the western boundary with Dagenham, to the south is Rainham, to the north west is Elm Park and the former site of RAF Hornchurch and to the north is Eastbrookend Country Park.
