The South East Freeway is a former name for the section of the Pacific Motorway between the Brisbane CBD and Springwood.

The freeway was built in sections that extended south over a number years. Construction from the Captain Cook Bridge to Mount Gravatt was completed in the early 1980s.

The freeway was designed to provide an alternative to the congested Logan Road. Inner city travel times from suburbs just pass Mount Gravatt have been reduced significantly except in peak traffic time when, ironically, Logan Road is a quicker option.
