[edit] South Croydon
South Croydon is a locality in Greater London, the area surrounding the valley south of central Croydon about 1 km in radius, centred on the Red Deer public house on the Brighton Road. It is part of the South Croydon (CR2) post town and in the London Borough of Croydon. It is essentially a dormitory suburb for Croydon and London. The locality could be considered to be bounded to the north and east by the South Croydon (CR2) postal border and to the west and south by the historic Croydon parish border which runs from Conduit Lane to Croham Hurst (crossing Croham Road at the point that Croham Road becomes Croham Valley Road) then across to the railway line, crossing Selsdon Road where it becomes Upper Selsdon Road and Carlton Road where it becomes Mayfield Road. Thereafter the old parish border roughly follows the railway south.
Landmarks of South Croydon include:
- The Swan and Sugarloaf public house
- Whitgift School
- South Croydon Bus Garage
[edit] South Croydon (road)
The street South End which continues northward as High Street, Croydon and southward as Brighton Road, South Croydon is in post town Croydon, CR0. When Croydon people speak of "South Croydon" they often mean this road, in order to avoid confusion with the famous seaside resort of Southend-on-Sea in Essex.
[edit] South Croydon post town area (CR2)
The postal district of South Croydon includes South Croydon, Sanderstead, Selsdon and two remnants of Addington (Croham Valley and Monks Hill).
