From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The South Carolina League of the South is a secessionist organization made up of County chapters. The S.C. L.O.S. is a leading State Chapter of the national League of the South headquartered in Killen, Alabama.

Leadership of the South Carolina LoS include State Chairman James E. Layden, and State Director Robert B. Hayes. There is also a governing Board of Directors.

The SC LoS has been extremely active throughout the State of South Carolina, giving interviews to news organisations, speaking to committees of the South Carolina General Assembly, and sponsoring "flaggings." The SC LoS has opened two stores known as Southern Patriot Shopes, one in Abbeville, the other in Cayce, where they sell Southern merchandise.

In 2004 the SC LoS purchased "Secession Hill" in Abbeville, which was the gathering place on 22 November 1860 of local citizens at which time delegates were selected to attend the secession convention in Columbia, South Carolina on 17 December 1860. There is also an unknown Confederate soldier buried on Secession Hill. The SC LoS plans to make a park out of the property, and have been developing it for that purpose.

"South Carolina is sovereign, and it is time that our legislators recognize that fact and tell the federal authorities ... when they have overstepped their constitutional authority," said SC LoS State Director Robert Hayes during an interview.
