South African Open

The South African Open is one of the principal golf tournaments on the Sunshine Tour and since 1997 it has been co-sanctioned by the European Tour. It is one of the "National Opens" which receives special treatment from the Official World Golf Rankings, with the winner being guaranteed a minimum of 16 points regardless of the strength of the field. It has been known by several sponsored names and is currently called the "South African Airways Open".
Gary Player has been the most successful player in the tournament's history, with 13 victories between 1956 and 1981.
