South Africa vs Wales at rugby union
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
South Africa and Wales have been playing each other in rugby union since 1906, and in total, have contested 19 Test matches.
South Africa went into their June 26, 2004 game against a transitioning Wales side with much confidence after an impressive two-test series whitewash of Ireland. Playing in Securicor Loftus Stadium, Pretoria, Jake White's new look Springbok side would further demonstrate in this match the resurrection of the Boks. They were in total command of the game from start to finish. The forwards were all that forwards should be - strong, tall and powerful in the tackles leaving the Welsh with very little possession, most of which was provided on the back foot. The Boks unleashed wave after wave of attack from which they would smash through the Welsh defence. The backline showing the creativity and poise that had been missing in previous Bok sides of recent memory. At the final whistle the scoreboard reflected South Africa's dominance: 53-18, to the Springboks.
During the November 2004 tour, the Boks won a hard-fought 38-36 decision at the Millennium Stadium in Wales, demonstrating Wales' own rugby resurgence (culminating in Wales' Grand Slam in the 2005 Six Nations Championship).
