Soup is the second album by the band Blind Melon. Though considered by some to be one of the band's best albums, it was poorly received due to poor exposure, bad critical reviews, and Shannon Hoon's death at around the same time as the album's release. Also, many of the songs have a much darker perspective than Blind Melon's debut. For instance, "Galaxie" appears to deal with a troubled relationship, "2 X 4" is about Hoon's experience at a drug detox, the country-tinged "Skinned" about notorious serial killer Ed Gein, "St. Andrew's Fall" about death by jumping off a tewnty story building, along with such despairing songs as "Toes Across the Floor," "Wilt", "The Duke" and "Car Seat". However, there is some hope shining though the darkness in the album's subject matter, like in "New Life", shows Hoon hoping that the birth of his baby daughter, Nico Blue, will put his life back on track. Years later, the album has become a modern day cult classic.
