[edit] Equipment
Kinkisharyo-Mitsui was chosen to design and manufacture 31 low-floor cars, along with additional equipment and support. The cars are to be delivered between November 2006 and September 2008. Although the system is designed to accommodate trains of up to four cars each, initial trains will consist of only two cars, growing as ridership increases. The cars will be 95 feet (30 m) long, accommodate 200 people each (74 seated), and be double-ended to allow travel in either direction.
[edit] Future
Future plans call for extending the system from Westlake to the Northgate Mall via the University of Washington to the North, and from SeaTac Airport to South 200th Street to the South. Sound Transit also recently asked for the public's opinion on several new proposed plans, which would extend light rail and transit further throughout the Seattle area, including major eastside suburbs such as Bellevue, Redmond, and Issaquah.
