Prestige classes

In the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, Soulknife is a character class or prestige class. They were first introduced in the Psionics Handbook as a prestige class, but was remade into a base class in the Expanded Psionics Handbook.

Soulknives are warriors of extreme psionic discipline who have learned to channel their power into Mindblades, or swords composed of psionic energy. Their freeform training allows them to take any occupation of their choosing: from assassin to police officer. They are effectively psionic monks.

Soulknife is the favoured class of the Xeph race, which means that many Xeph are motivated to become soulknives.

[edit] Soulknives and PC Balance issues

The Soulknife is widely considered to be one of the weakest classes in the game, mainly due to their less than optimal base attack bonus (3/4 hit dice) for a melee class, as well as their class features, which add up to make them "Jacks of all trades, masters of none". Many home-brew fixes for the class have been published on the wizards.com message boards.
