Souleymane Bamba (born 13 January 1985) is a French professional footballer currently playing for Scottish Premier League club Dunfermline Athletic.
Nicknamed Sol, Bamba began his career with French club Paris Saint Germain at the age of 14. Despite impressing for the youth and B teams, he failed to feature for the first team. He did however make his mark on the international stage, featuring in the 2005 African Youth Championship for his parent’s home land Côte d'Ivoire.
After an initial trial period, Bamba signed for Dunfermline Athletic in July 2006 after being released by Paris Saint Germain.
In 2006 Sol was given a trial by the then manager of Dunfermline Athletic FC, Jim Leishman. During his short trial for the club he came on as a substitute in a pre season friendly against the Spanish La Liga side Osasuna and made and instant impact. His enthusiasm and passion for the game shone through. After an array of fully committed challenges and a narrowly missed thundering 30 yard strike he became an instant hit with the East End crowd and cementing his move to the club.
Throughout the course of the 2006/2007 SPL season Sol Bamba has continued to impress with his non nonsense fully committed defending style and enthusiastic approach to every game. He has made 13 league and cup appearances and has been described as a raw talent by the Scottish press. Despite coming under some criticism for making silly mistakes Bamba has retained the love and support from the crowd and a small faction of them have begun a campaign to get this charismatic player playing in a more forward position partnering Mark Burchill in the Pars front line!
