Soul Crew

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Soul Crew is Cardiff City's "firm" responsible for violence at football matches.

[edit] Origins

They came to prominence in the 1970s after a "league table of shame" related to football violence was published and named Cardiff as the safest ground to visit in the country. At the time, this meant they came top of the table. Following the publication of this table the club's hooligan element became more active and within the next twenty years found themselves at the top of the table of shame again, only this time, the order had been reversed, meaning Ninian Park was no longer the safest ground to visit, but the worst. The name Soul Crew derives from the love of Northern Soul music during the 1970's as illustrated in the book Soul crew, by David Jones and Tony Rivers, who were active members of the group.
