Souad Massi

Souad Massi (Arabic: سعاد مسي) (b. in Alger August 23, 1972) is a critically acclaimed Algerian guitarist and vocalist. In 1999 she signed with Island Records. Her music, which prominently features her acoustic guitar playing, shows the influences more of western musical styles such as rock and country more than of traditional Algerian music or modern Rai. She sings in Arabic, French, and occasionally English, often employing multiple languages in the same song. She is currently based in Paris, France.
To date she has released three albums:
- Raoui: originally released on April 1, 2003. Re-released on October 19, 2004 with a bonus track
- Deb: released on June 29, 2004
- Mesk Elil: released on October 31, 2005
