Hidden: Source
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hidden: Source is a multiplayer total conversion for the popular Half-Life 2 computer game. The concept behind the modification was first brought on by a group of students from the University of Lincoln (United Kingdom), led by Mark Wherrett. A Half-Life prototype was created by this group, until Mark Wherrett decided to pass the idea on to the actual team, which is still working to bring The Hidden's experience and concept to the Source engine.

[edit] The story
British scientists and geneticists have managed to refract light around an organic subject, making it invisible to the naked eye. Unfortunately, this process usually ends in the subject losing their life, or going through extreme and constant pain. Up until now, the experiments have been fruitless in providing a living subject with the refractory capability.
The breakthrough, known only as Subject 617, escaped, and the I.R.I.S. (Infinitum Research Intercept Squad) Team is sent to kill him. Since the escape, funding was pulled, and the British Government denied any part of genetic experiments.
[edit] Gameplay
Gameplay centers around a team of I.R.I.S. commandos, who are hunting down a single player designated as "The Hidden". The I.R.I.S. team has weapons and teamwork, but "The Hidden" gets almost complete invisiblity and a completely different set of weapons. There are 3 ways for a player to become The Hidden, which is set by the server, either:
- The I.R.I.S. member that kills The Hidden becomes The Hidden in the next round.
- The Hidden is randomly selected.
- Dependent on the amount of damage dealt to The Hidden, players collect weighting points that translate to a percentual chance of becoming The Hidden in the next round. Team damage decreases the weighting points while teamplay such as handing out ammunition adds additional points.
The spawn system is roundbased, like that of Counter-Strike, with players getting killed having to wait for the next round to start.
In the Overrun game mode, I.R.I.S. members who die, immediately respawn as Hidden until only one marine is left to survive for a preset amount of time, usually between 15 and 30 seconds.
[edit] Weapons
As of Beta 4a, I.R.I.S. members have the choice between playing an Assault, a Support role, or a Surveillence role (Spectating). They get to choose a Primary Weapon, a Secondary Weapon and Additional Equipment. The Assault role can use any of the four primary weapons, while the Support role cannot. However, the Support role can partially restock the ammo supplies of teammates and is given 3 sonic trip alarms.
- Primary weapons
- FN F2000 assault rifle (Assault only)
- FN P90 submachine gun
- Remington 870 MCS shotgun (Assault only)
- FN 303 less-lethal launcher
- Secondary weapons
- FN Five-Seven pistol
- FN FNP-9 pistol
- Additional equipment
- Laser Aiming Module (LAM)
- Flashlight module
- Night vision goggles
- Sonic trip alarm
- Adrenaline shot
The Hidden has only two weapons:
- Knife - the knife has 2 attacks
- the slash (which takes 3 hits to kill)
- the "Pigstick" (which takes 1 hit to kill, but is much harder to time and is less rapid. Additionally, some servers disable this)
- A number of pipe bombs, dependent on the number of I.R.I.S. spawning with the Hidden in that round
- 1/2 I.R.I.S.: no pipebombs
- 3/4 I.R.I.S.: 1 pipebomb
- 5/6 I.R.I.S.: 2 pipebombs
- 7/8 I.R.I.S.: 3 pipebombs
