Sotby is a village in Lincolnshire, England situated north easterly of the city of Lincoln between Horncastle and Market Rasen. Most housing in Sotby is large and expensive for the area it is in. The village is part of the East Lindsey District of Lincolnshire.

Sotby is an affluent area. The average house price is around £450,000. This has been worked out by houses sold in the area in the last ten years. The average is very high for somewhere in Lincolnshire as there average house price is very low compared to other counties in the United Kingdom. Sotby is clearly a desirable place to live. Although the village is very small and has just over 30 houses they are mostly large and luxurious.

Sotby has just three roads passing through the village. There is Main Road and Wass Lane and a lane which connects the two. Main Road is where most of the most expensive houses in Sotby are placed. The smaller houses in the village are placed on Wass Lane. They are mostly cottages for the retired.

Sotby is possibly one of the most desirable areas to live throughout the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire and the home owners are mostly Lincolnshire businessman or famous Lincolnshire people. Daniel Crane, the famous sporting artist lives in the Sotby Manor House. This is situated on the connection road between Wass Lane and Main Road. John Lawson is also a resident of the village. John Lawson is a horse racing owner and Sotby Farming Company owner, which possesses most of the land around the area. Another notable home owner in Sotby is Phil Dukes. He too is a horse racing owner, but maybe a bit larger than the rest, with plenty of horses in training under the name of his wife. Dukes is the owner and founder of the pallet and packaging company Lincolnshire Pallets.

[edit] Services

Sotby used to have a pub called The Old Nag's Head but these days the pub is closed due to the lack of customers. This is due to the amount of people drinking elsewhere in larger towns such as Horncastle or Louth due to more choice of pubs and clubs. This is a real shame for the village. The house is currently a family home but never rule out a re-opening.

There is a church and a methodist church in Sotby. Until several years ago both were in full use but due to the decline in religious activity in the area both were forced to close. Both are now privatly owned and occasional services on special occasions such as Christmas and Easter can be booked but during all other times the they remain closed.
