Sota Higurashi (日暮草太 Higurashi Sōta) is a character in the manga and anime series InuYasha.

Sota is the younger brother of Kagome, and approximately ten or eleven years of age. He is jealous of her adventures in the Sengoku Jidai, but Kagome claims it is too dangerous for him to accompany her; it is unclear whether or not Sota would even be capable of traveling between the modern era and the Sengoku Jidai, as no rhyme or reason has ever been applied to the workings of the time tunnel within the Bone-Eater's Well. Kagome can use the well as she possess spiritual powers. However Sota, being a normal boy, lacks this "edge." Even so, Sota helps Kagome keep up with her studies, reminding her of tests, gathering notes from her classmates and even speaking to her teachers for her.

Sota sees InuYasha as an elder brother and male role model due to the lack of his father's presence, and loves spending time with InuYasha while the han'yō is in the modern era. Sota even calls Inuyasha "Inu onii-chan" (犬の兄ちゃん, dog brother). When Kagome comes back to the modern era after fighting with InuYasha, Sota often tries to help them reconcile. Inuyasha often lands in the position of a mentor to Sota in many cases, often with hilarious results (e.g once when Sota wanted to ask a girl called Hitomi (Inuyasha) out. He asked Inuyasha and not his family for fear of them doing something embarrassing. The two practiced in the backyard, with Inuyasha as the girl. Kagome walked in on the two, shocked and thinking Sota is homosexual. This, of course, landed the two having to give a long explanation to the entire family.)
