[edit] Street Fighter

The SOTA Toys Street Fighter line is unique in that the line-ups for each round are voted on by fans. SOTA has tries to set up the voting so that popular characters are evenly distributed between the rounds of action figures. By delaying the release of the most popular characters, SOTA can produce more figures over a longer period of time, allowing obscure characters that would never sell on their own to be produced.

However, because of constant delays, loss of revenue, and the closure of many retail stores that carry Sota products, Sota Toys will no longer use the voting system for their Street Fighter line. The voting results for Round 6 was thrown out in favor of an internet exclusive series. Round 5 has also been cancelled. Instead, according to Jed (a SOTA employee,) the remaining cast from the original sf2 game will be released at the end of the 2007 year.

Furthermore, Sota has created another spinoff Street Fighter line (Street Fighter Beta) that will consist of retooled versions of previously made Street Fighter figures.

[edit] Trivia

At one point, round one from the Street Fighter series were considered rare for being underproduce. However, this shown changed when the factory that used to produce the Street Fighter figures (with the exception of Gouken) started to produce unofficial units from wave 1 that the request of certain online retailers. The unofficials figures are very identical to the originals except for small differences. They are: pixelated graphics on the card, a lower quality paper used for the cataloge, subtle differences in paint, and Japanese variants in American packaging. This caused the value of the round one figures to drop drastically in the third market.
