Sorceress (Spyro)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sorceress is a character from the Spyro the Dragon series. The Sorceress is the main villain in Spyro: Year of the Dragon. She is a blue dinosaur-like creature with a wand containing a dragon egg.
In the beginning of the game, her apprentice Bianca steals 150 dragon eggs from the dragons on the other side of the world. The only dragon that can get through her rabbit tunnel is Spyro. Spyro has to battle the Sorceress for the dragon eggs. Sparx the Dragonfly, Hunter the Cheetah, Sheila the Kangaroo, Sgt. Byrd, Bentley the Yeti, and Agent 9 assist him.
During this time, Bianca falls in love with Hunter and becomes a valuable ally against the Sorceress, though her former queen is very powerful. According to the game, the Sorceress is thousands of years old and knows all the magical spells in the world.
She relies on magic to keep her alive and when she banished the dragons from her side of the world 1,000 years ago, the magic started to fade. Now it's almost gone and she plans to use the dragon eggs to restore the fading magic to her realm. She would then kill all the dragons, and use their wings to cast a spell that will keep her alive forever.
Spyro confronted her in an arena fight, braving her magic spells until she was at last blown into the lava surrounding the floating stadium island. However, as Spyro was whisked away by a spell, the Sorceress, utilizing her amazing will, strength, and endurance, escaped the lava and fled the arena on her powerfully armed Royal Imperialist UFO Saucer Fighter. She went into exile deep within her treasury, with the only entrance being a magical portal locked with a powerful spell. Spyro at last broke the seal using powerful energy collected from gems and dragon eggs, cleared the treasury, destroyed the Royal Airforce UFO Fleet, and beat the Sorceress in a heated saucer dogfight. The Sorceress was at last defeated, knocked into powerfully acidic goo which her hide could not withstand, and killed.

[edit] Physical Characteristics
It is revealed in the game that the Sorceress has an incredibly tough hide and a substantial amount of strength. Her body is capable of taking hits from rocket blasts, cannon balls, and able to withstand the molten heat of lava. She is very strong, being very tall and quite muscular. She can knock flying objects right out of the sky, and is skilled in piloting saucers and airplane fighters. She is also capable of performing spells that use so much energy, they would kill a novice. She uses these spells to warp her Rhynoc sentries into terrible beasts, as shown in the next section.

[edit] Buzz
Buzz is the result of Bianca's first spell to get rid of Spyro. Before his transformation, Buzz was a rhynoc. After a few technical difficulties in doing the spell, which included transforming the rhynoc into a small rabbit fodder, Bianca managed to create the monstrous, reptilian buzz saw frog that would battle Spyro after his completion of Sunrise Spring. His arena was a large circular platform surrounded by lava.
[edit] Spike
Another rhynoc that was transformed to battle Spyro, Spike looks more, in his transformation, like a mix of gigantic satyr and an ogre with a plasma blaster. In a coding mistake, the cutscene that occurs directly preceding the boss battle is not played in early editions of the game. Later editions corrected this issue, and the scene played where it should have. Spike is considered to be one of the hardest, and/or most annoying, bosses.
[edit] Scorch
Proclaimed by the Sorceress to be "the monster to end all monsters," Scorch has, in his transformed state: an orange, hairless, bat-like body; a devil-like tail; and an ugly, twisted face with yellow eyes. As the penultimate (second-to-last) boss before the Sorceress herself, Scorch is, to some, more difficult of a fight but not as hard as Spike. He can send out many types of enemies to defeat Spyro, including a weaker version of Buzz (the first boss)through his egg-vomiting attacks.
[edit] Trivia
- She was voiced by Flo Di Re.
