Sopilka

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sopilka (Ukrainian: Сопилка) is a wind instrument similar to a recorder, except that it lacks a fipple, and has six to ten finger holes. Traditionally, the Sopilka is made of wood, but can be made of metal or intrument-grade plastic. The Sopilka is a traditional instrument of the Hutsul people of the Carpathian mountains, but has been embraced by Ukrainian national culture. More recently, the Sopilka has found its way into the music of Ruslana, Haydamaky, the Kubasonics and other Ukrainian bands.

The Sopilka should not be confused with the sopila, a Croatian double-reed horn.
