Sophie Trudeau is a Canadian musician. She is most well known for her participation in the post-rock groups, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, A Silver Mt. Zion and Valley of the Giants.
Trudeau first served as violinist for Godspeed You! Black Emperor on their first EP, Slow Riot for New Zerø Kanada, which was released in 1999. Trudeau went on later to co-create the band, A Silver Mt. Zion, where she serves as one of two principal violinists. She also has been noted as playing bass guitar and trumpet on the EP Pretty Little Lightning Paw and the album Horses in the Sky by A Silver Mt. Zion, respectively. She is also credited as playing violin on the Arcade Fire track "Wake Up" from their debut album Funeral.
Trudeau also sings vocals for A Silver Mt. Zion. The band has a unique knack for having all seven of its band members sing vocals.
Trudeau is also the founder and owner of Bangor Records. Its current roster includes her string trio project, The Mile End Ladies String Auxiliary, for which she plays violin, along with Beckie Foon of A Silver Mt. Zion on cello and Genevieve Heistek of Hangedup on viola. Their first album, From Cells of Roughest Air, has been available from Bangor Records for months, but was only recently released for sale elsewhere. She is also a member of Diebold, a duo soon to be released on her label Bangor Records.
In 2006, Sophie, with Efrim Menuck and Thierry Amar (the Godspeed You! Black Emperor members who founded A Silver Mt. Zion), assisted in the recording of Carla Bozulich's first release for Constellation, Evangelista.
