[edit] Biography

Shockingly uncompromising. Unashamedly catchy. Son of Science combines modern technical metal music with catchy rock songs, the emotional lyrics reflecting and giving voice to the disaffected youth of the new millennium.

Their debut recording kicks off with “Sound of Me”, a riff-laden metal song which deals with the challenges of finding your own identity. Greg mixes anguished growls with stunning vocal harmonies which disarm and disorient the listener while leaving them satisfied after the catchy-as-hell chorus.

In the more epic “Not the End”, the band speaks of recovering from a self-destructive relationship. The song subtly builds up towards its remarkable climax where string sections, choirs and piano combine with Lee’s orgy of melodic lead guitar and Greg’s flawless vocal ad-libbing to provide the ending of all song endings.

Greg says, “We decided to release these 2 songs on the internet first as we felt they best represented what the band is about musically; unrelentingly heavy, daringly technical and broodingly melodic.

“Theorists of the New Paradigm” is an instrumental penned by Son of Science guitarist Lee Cassidy. Great riffs, mind-blowing technicality and inspired guitar, bass and drum (!?!) solos abound.

The pop/punk-metal hybrid “My Dealer” is about one of the band member’s ex-girlfriends and her downward spiral during the struggle to kick her heroin habit. Adrian commented, “We decided right from the start that we were going to obliterate all the boundaries that people associate with heavy music, both lyrically and musically. When you shatter the shackles of convention then you open yourself to an infinite world of diversity and creativity”.

The band tracks most of the music at Lee and Adrian’s exclusive Media Node Studio in Brighton while Greg records vocals at his home studio in London.

Although the subject matter seems dark at times the band has a distinctly British sense of humour and unrelentingly pokes fun at themselves as well as everyone else. Adrian laughs, “A journalist friend of mine said the other day that the song writing dynamic that Greg and I share reminded him of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. What the hell do you reply to that”!?

Don’t be fooled by their boy-band good looks, SoS have the hooks, the technical ability and the sheer will to dominate a genre that they believe is in need of a major shake-up.
