[edit] Background
Introducing the Walkman brand to the Sony Ericsson range of phones proved to be a huge success, with sales of more than 3 million Walkman-branded devices prior to the announcement of the W950, the sixth Walkman phone. One of its distinguishing features is the 4GB internal large flash memory in which you can store more than 1000 songs.
[edit] Description
The W950 is the first UIQ-based Walkman phone, containing a 4GB internal flash drive, yet still having all the features of a business phone. The W950 supports push email, document editing and PC synchronisation amongst other features. Notably, the W950 does not have an integrated camera, which may be a positive attribute for those working in environments where cameras are not permitted, but has caused criticism. A camera attachment is rumoured to be planned. [citation needed]
Also the W950 is the first "open" Walkman phone, which means that it is possible to write applications for W950 users to download that can extend the features and functions of the phone.
[edit] Developing for the W950
Since the W950 is based upon the UIQ platform, there are many opportunities for application developers to extend the out of the box experience, through the use of third party applications that can be downloaded to the phone. In addition developers can choose their preferred programming language (Java, C++, etc) and IDE (Visual Studio, CodeWarrior, Eclipse, Carbide, NetBeans).
